Users are actively discussing a possible connection between Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) and the decentralized exchange Aster. This speculation was sparked by his post on X, in which he congratulated the platform on its token launch.
Some community members have suggested that CZ initiated the creation of a DEX within the BNB Chain ecosystem in response to the success of another popular platform, Hyperliquid.
A user named Tulip King agreed that Zhao was “annoyed by Hyperliquid’s performance.”
“Aster also launched alongside the USDF stablecoin—literally, Ethena with a yield of around 12%,” he noted.
Ethena is supported by the venture arm YZi Labs, where CZ plays a key role. He interacts with project founders, offers mentoring, and provides training.
On September 19, the company announced an increase in its stake in Ethena.
Tulip King also noted the removal of the “ex” prefix from the Binance founder’s profile. According to the user, Zhao is “back in charge.”
Despite rumors, CZ is barred from holding executive positions at the company under a lifetime ban imposed by US authorities as part of the 2024 deal.
However, there is evidence of Aster’s connection to Binance. At the end of 2024, the exchange also received funding from YZi Labs.
In a comment to Cointelegraph, a BNB Chain representative stated that Aster is indeed supported by the ecosystem. The platform works with the project’s mentors and has access to its technical resources. However, the spokesperson did not confirm Zhao’s direct involvement.
Aster beat Hyperliquid in TVL: $674 million versus $671 million.
However, by other metrics, Hyperliquid leads. For example, over the past 24 hours, trading volume on this platform amounted to $814 million, while on Aster it was $429 million. Daily commissions on the former exceeded $2.6 million, while on the latter, it was $451,850.
Meanwhile, the ASTER token’s market capitalization has reached $1 billion. At the time of writing, the asset is trading at $0.66, up 3.7% in 24 hours.
HYPE’s price is $57, with a market capitalization of $15.2 billion. On September 18, the coin reached a new all-time high of around $60.
Web3 wallet MetaMask previously announced the launch of futures trading via Hyperliquid.
