In the Uysky Region of the Chelyabinsk Oblast in Russia, a criminal inquiry has commenced against a preschool instructor for utilizing electricity reimbursement to defray the expenses of her family’s crypto-mining operation.

As per the findings of the investigators, the woman was entitled to receive remuneration for accommodation and utilities and presented documentation to the Uysky Region Department of Education for two and a half years straight, thereby obtaining funds.

The majority of the power consumed was, in fact, used to run a mining setup established at the residence by the defendant’s spouse, as conveyed by the public prosecutor’s office. The losses incurred by the Uysky Region Department of Education are approximated at 382,000 rubles.

The area resident has been accused under Clause 3 of Article 159.2 of the Russian Penal Code (embezzlement via fraudulently obtaining payments, implemented on a substantial scale). The potential penalty under this clause encompasses a levy of 100,000 rubles and a custodial sentence of up to six years.

Previously, Petr Fedorov, an associate professor from the National Research University “Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology,” indicated that the Russian governmental budget is forfeiting a minimum of 10 billion rubles in tax income due to illicit cryptocurrency extraction.
