Changpeng Zhao: Binance Wants to Return to the US | INFbusiness

Changpeng Zhao, the controlling shareholder of Binance, the largest crypto exchange by trading volume, who recently received a pardon from US President Donald Trump, said his company would like to return to the US market to “help the United States become the crypto capital of the world.”

In a conversation with investor Anthony Pompliano, Zhao stated that the current White House administration supports digital assets. The Binance founder called the US government one of the most influential in the world, praising it for its use and promotion of cryptocurrencies.

Despite being the world's largest crypto exchange, Binance currently operates outside the US, the businessman lamented. Zhao said Binance is ready to contribute to the development of the American crypto industry.

“We'd like to help the US become the crypto capital of the world, but regulatory barriers remain a key challenge,” Zhao lamented.

The US Department of Justice previously charged Zhao with knowing about suspicious transactions on Binance related to terrorist financing and other illegal activities as its CEO, but failing to report them to law enforcement. Last week, Trump pardoned Zhao, finding him innocent of illegal transactions on the exchange and money laundering violations.

Recently, Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters called Zhao's pardon corrupt. She claims Trump is encouraging criminal activity related to cryptocurrency, as suspicious transactions linked to drug trafficking may have been conducted through the Binance platform.
