What is important to know:

  • According to his Linkedin profile, Mauricio Beygelmans served as OKX's Chief Legal Officer from August 2021 to March 2025.
  • Last month, OKX paid over $500 million in fines and withheld fees as part of a settlement with the US Department of Justice.

OKX's chief legal officer, Mauricio Beugelmans, has left the cryptocurrency exchange, according to his Linkedin profile.

Beigelmans, who played a key role in developing OKX's global compliance policy, states in his profile that his tenure at the exchange lasted three years and eight months, from August 2021 to March 2025.

Just last month, OKX paid more than $500 million in fines and withheld fees as part of a settlement with the US Department of Justice that alleged the company facilitated more than $5 billion in “suspicious transactions and criminal proceeds.”

A source familiar with the situation said Beigelmans' departure was related to a recent settlement with the Justice Department.

OKcoin, the US subsidiary of OKX, also received a subpoena issued by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on February 24 last year. The subpoena cited “certain persons engaged in fraud and other illegal activities in connection with digital asset transactions.”

Neither OKX nor Beigelmans responded to requests for comment on the situation at the time of publication.
