Bitcoin Miner GDA Expands West Texas Capacity with 50MW
Genesis Digital Assets Limited (GDA) is expanding its Bitcoin (BTC) mining operations in West Texas, adding 50 megawatts (MW) to its facilities in Pyote and Vernon.
GDA is a privately held organization with offices in the United Arab Emirates and the United States, with a combined capacity of over 600 MW. Although the company has not disclosed its total hashrate, GDA Executive President Abdumalik Mirakhmedov noted that it is “one of the largest Bitcoin mining companies in the world by this criterion.”
By comparison, Bitdeer (BTDR), one of the leading publicly traded Bitcoin mining companies by infrastructure, has nearly 900 MW of capacity, while giants like MARA Holdings (MARA) and Riot Platforms (RIOT) have over 1 gigawatt (GW) each.
The new GDA expansion includes two 20 MW buildings at the Pyote site, bringing its capacity to 195 MW, and a 10 MW containerized plant at the Vernon site, bringing it to 70 MW. According to the GDA website, the Pyote site can be expanded to 370 MW.
A bitcoin mining company will participate in a demand response program in Texas, which involves shutting down its installations during peak power demand in exchange for compensation.
GDA operates 20 data centers in jurisdictions including Texas, South Carolina, Sweden, and Argentina. Some of these centers use renewable energy sources including wind, hydroelectric, nuclear, and flaring gas.
“Bitcoin mining is GDA’s core business. The company is currently exploring opportunities to collaborate with other emerging sectors, including AI, to improve and expand its mining operations,” Mirakhmedov told CoinDesk.
