Vitalik Buterin becomes a billionaire at the current rate of Ethereum

The mainstream media has taken notice of Buterin Ethereum

Ethereum’s rising price has caught the attention of the mainstream media, including the American television channel CNN. CNN stated that Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin, “a 27-year-old programmer who created Ethereum in 2013 when he was 19 years old. The cryptocurrency was launched in 2015, and now Buterin holds about 333,500 Eth in his wallet.” Multiplying this value by the rate of $3,500 per Ethereum, CNN noted that at the current rate, the Ethereum founder could be considered a billionaire.

Indeed, we’re talking about a wallet with an address that holds 333,521 thousand Ethereums. The noticeable volatility of Ethereum exchange rate, which is typical for almost all digital currencies, except for stabelcoins, does not affect the mentioned billionaire yet. On May 5, Ethereum is worth $3,28k, which means there’s about $1.095 billion in dollar terms in said wallet. This amount has grown by about 2,500% since the beginning of 2020.

From Vitalik Buterin’s posts in 2018, we learn that he mentioned this wallet in response to a question about where Ethereum trading and pre-mining of him and other Ethereum founders is reflected. However, Buterin noted that this address also reflects charity transactions and donations, and that he has “several other digital addresses,” but whose balance is “very small.”

Earlier, Ethereum attracted a lot of media attention because one of the Ethereum developers, Virgil Griffith, was accused by the U.S. authorities that, speaking at a conference in Pyongyang and talking about the capabilities of this digital asset, he thereby shared information that could be used by North Korea to circumvent U.S. sanctions.
