Key points:
- Jupiter, a leading DeFi exchange on the Solana platform, has acquired digital collectibles platform DRiP Haus to expand its NFT capabilities.
- DRiP Haus will operate independently, with half of the team focused on integrating NFT functionality into the Jupiter platform.
Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) may be losing popularity, but don't tell Jupiter that. Solana's largest DeFi exchange just added digital collectibles platform DRiP Haus to its fold.
The acquisition is part of Jupiter's push to become what Kash Dhanda calls a “Solana super app”: a space not just for traders of financial instruments like swaps and perps, but also for digital culture enthusiasts.
“We disagree,” Dhanda said of NFT pessimists. “We believe NFTs are here to stay.”
Built on the foundation of the short-lived Solana store, DRiP Haus has survived the NFT market’s steep decline to become a distribution hub for digital collectibles. Instead of trading, it focuses on distribution: Startups across Solanaland promote and distribute their visual campaigns through DRiP, according to Dhanda, who estimates that he now creates the vast majority of Solana NFTs that are “non-spammy.”
Dhanda and DRiP Labs founder Vibhu Norby declined to disclose the amount Jupiter paid in cash for the deal. A source familiar with the terms of the agreement estimated it was double the amount raised. The startup had previously raised $11.5 million from venture investors.
Jupiter co-founder Meow hinted at the acquisition in late February during his campaign to delay a multi-million dollar token payout that would earn him more JUP later while he funds token reward programs for acquired teams now. Norby confirmed that his team will receive tokens from the reward program.
Half of the eight DRiP team members will continue to work on the distribution platform, while the other half will focus on improving Jupiter's currently missing NFT features, specifically adding a swap router to the DeFi exchange's homepage.
Norby will oversee DRiP from an “executive, strategic perspective” from Jupiter. While the DRiP brand will remain independent, Norby noted that its visual identity will be updated to better align with the new parent company. He is also working to create a “truly outstanding NFT experience” in the Jupiter mobile app.
