What you need to know:

  • The Ethereum Foundation announced on its blog that Xiao-Wei Wang and Tomasz Stanczak have been appointed as new co-CEOs.
  • The news follows a previous announcement that Aya Miyaguchi was stepping down as CEO to take up the position of new president of EF.
  • Additionally, Danny Ryan, formerly of EF, announced his joining Etherealize, a new project aimed at bringing ETH to Wall Street.

The Ethereum Foundation (EF), a non-profit organization supporting the development and research of the Ethereum blockchain, announced in a blog post on Saturday that it has appointed Xiao-Wei Wang and Tomasz Stanczak as co-CEOs.

The news comes after Tuesday's announcement that Aya Miyaguchi is stepping down to become EF's new president. The leadership changes come amid intense debate within the community about EF's role in the ecosystem, as some have criticized the organization and its leadership for the price of the blockchain's ether (ETH) token lagging behind other cryptocurrencies, while the blockchain has attracted fewer new developers for the first time than its competitor Solana.

Wang has been with EF since 2017, where she researched concepts like sharding and contributed to the massive redesign of Ethereum known as “The Merge.” Stanczak is the founder of Nerthermind, one of the largest software products or clients supporting the Ethereum blockchain.

“Over the next few years, the Ethereum ecosystem will have to go through a difficult transition from an early stage focused on a small group of enthusiasts to a trusted, public, censorship-resistant base layer of the global financial and software stack,” the Foundation said in a blog post.

More changes

In addition to Wang and Stanczak’s new positions, former EF researcher Danny Ryan has announced that he has joined Etherealize, a new project aimed at bringing ETH to Wall Street. The company was founded by former banker Vivek Raman, who previously told CoinDesk that one of Etherealize’s goals is to bridge the gap between Ethereum and banks by educating institutions and promoting ETH as a serious crypto asset.

In a post on X, Ryan noted that he aims to “create a new Ethereum organization based on Real World Ethereum.”

“The world is ready for the transition to chain, and we are here to do the hard work that is needed,” Ryan added.
