Chinese publisher World of Warcraft will buy 24 000 ASIC's

Chinese online game publisher The9 intends to buy 24,000 ASIC’s for bitcoin mining. The company announced this on its official website.

According to the published announcement, Bitmain will be the supplier of the equipment. It is planned that the first shipments of Antminer S19j will not begin until November 2021.

The Antminer S19j is the latest Bitmain Antminer model announced in February 2021. According to Bitmain’s official website, the model will have a hash capacity of 90 Tx/s with a power consumption rating of 3,100 watts. With 24,000 ASICs, the company predicts to increase the hash rate to 2,160 Px/s. The amount of the deal was not disclosed.

Chinese ASIC’s publisher

The Chinese online game publisher first announced plans to enter the cryptocurrency mining market back at the beginning of the year. At that time, The9 announced a partnership with cryptocurrency investors, including Jianping Kong, the former head of Canaan.

The news of the ASIC purchase doesn’t seem to have bounced back much on The9 (NCTY) stock so far.

Over the past week, the stock has been mostly in a downtrend. As of this writing, NCTY is trading at 52.29 (+0.58%).

The supply of ASICs for November is no coincidence. The BeInCrypto editorial board reported that the Chinese market is facing a shortage of chips. An excessive rush for mining equipment, coupled with difficult logistics due to the pandemic, has led to a stagnation in the market for video cards and ASICs.
