Binance and Gemini Client Data Leaked Online
Attackers have gained access to personal data of clients of the Gemini and Binance crypto exchanges. Some of the information has already been put up for sale on the darknet, Dark Web Informer reports.
According to the publication, the darknet user with the nickname AKM69 made the last recorded transaction on March 27.
“The database for sale is said to include 100,000 records, each containing full names, email addresses, phone numbers and location data of people from the US, as well as Singapore and the UK,” Dark Web Informer noted.
The attacker classified his “lot” as part of a “larger campaign to sell consumer data for cryptocurrency-related marketing and scams.”
A day earlier, on March 26, Dark Web Informer reported that a user named kiki88888 offered to sell Binance customer logins and passwords. The compromised data contained 132,744 lines of information.
Dark Web Informer clarified that the data leak was not related to a vulnerability in trading platforms:
“Some of you really need to stop pressing random buttons.”
In a comment to Cointelegraph, Binance denied any direct connection to the incident, saying that the hackers selling personal information gained access to it through malware on infected customers’ devices.
In January, the email addresses of over 7 million users of the NFT marketplace OpenSea were leaked online.
